Descaling & Scale Prevention, explained.
Older iron and steel drain lines slowly grow a rough crust of mineral scale and rust. The pipe is still there, but its opening shrinks and its walls catch everything that passes. Hard water speeds it up.
Planned descaling removes that crust with the right nozzle or cutter, usually alongside jetting, and tells you how quickly it comes back. That is how you find out whether yearly is enough or whether the pipe needs another conversation.

Can descaling damage an old pipe?
It can be done safely when the method suits the pipe. A camera look first helps us decide, and we say when a pipe is too fragile.
Will scale come back?
Yes, slowly. The point is to keep it from becoming a problem.
Does a water softener help?
It can reduce mineral buildup in pipes. Ask a water treatment professional.
